DO THEY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED IN YOUR COMPANY
RSI’s Hospitality and Tourism Executive Search Firm team specializes in specific careers. By determining which career path a candidate wants to take, and whether or not they have what it takes to succeed in such a career, RSI can successfully wrap up the search for your new hospitality and tourism professional.
While having basic knowledge of public interest is required of our candidates, we also look for the following:
Accessibility: With the ever-increasing focus on keeping customers happy, candidates need to enjoy serving people and be perpetually alert as to how to serve them better. A lot of these jobs require a team effort, so they must be able to work well in groups. This is why the hospitality and tourism industry tends to employ individuals who have a higher level of social skills, rather than the technically talented. A large majority of their job—actually, a candidate’s entire job—is focused on customer satisfaction, so they should know not only how to deal with people, but how to make them happy.
Flexibility: Unlike other industries, tourism tends to be more sensitive to seasonal and periodic variations in demand—different categories cause tourism seasonality, such as “natural,” “sporting seasons,” “tradition” and “business customs,” all of which are always changing, which means that all management within the industry need to be prepared for a major influx—and de-flux—of tourists, at all times.
Ability to Organize: Organization is a key component for success in a number of fields, and the tourism and hospitality industry is no exception. Those in the hospitality industry need to ensure that guest’ needs are met, rooms are cleaned and supplies are on hand. This requires a great deal of organization, because if employees lose track of who needs what, they’re going to have some very unhappy customers on their hands.
Ability to Market: Even with the growth in tourism and hospitality over the last few years, effective marketing is essential to ensure success in this field. With the proliferation of social media, using Facebook or Twitter to communicate with customers is a good way to help market their services.
Use Their Noggin: Many problems in this industry require creative thinking in order to solve. If a guest has a problem, then a candidate needs to be able to solve it, whether it’s changing a room setup for an unhappy guest or moving a pool party indoors when it starts raining. Knowing how to think on your feet will allow employees to get ahead in this competitive industry.
Fast and Willing Learner: Knowledge of local eateries, bars and shopping facilities will be key to success in this industry. Sending guests to the right places to give them an authentic experience in your town will add credibility to both you and your business.
Ability to Handle Stress: Stress seems to be an ever-present factor in jobs in this industry, whether you're a chef, a travel agent, or a tour guide. Candidates MUST be able to handle their stress effectively to succeed in this industry.
